For this project, my original idea was to create a cat lounging on a balcony and snoozing. I chose to go a different direction, though, because I knew I'd want to make it all myself and I wouldn't have the time to do it. So, I decided instead to sculpt a little duckling sitting on a lily pad with a cherry blossom on his head. I decided sculpting was the way to go because I really enjoyed that part in project 1, so I could focus more in depth on it in this project.
While I wasn't necessarily sculpting anything too difficult, I spent my time perfecting it since I was having so much fun with it. I tried to make my duckling as round and cute as possible. I also put a lot of detail into the cherry blossom flower on his head. I looked up references so I could achieve the effect of one petal laying on top of another - I'm super proud of how that came out, I think it was super successful.
My duck was 3D printed in white, and I'm thinking of painting the printed model to look more like a duck.
As for next steps, I would love to make a little digital art gallery of duck sculptures for our next project. I think a VR museum of models I've sculpted would be so fun. I've always wanted to get into sculpting with clay, but it's so complicated I could never quite do that. Now, with Blender, I hope to sculpt many more things in the future.
